...in the process of making up urbanism...
Urbanism
After thinking about
which spot in Baba we would like to have our pavilions on, Dominik, Matěj,
Tomáš, Zuzka and I decided for the spot, which is the closest to the potencial
start of the Baba tour. From the bird‘s eye view this spot looks like a
vertical rectangle. It lies above the southern slope and below the northern
triangle-spot which reminds something like a local square. Our rectangle is a
pleasant place, it’s neither steep nor flat. In the very southern part there is
a little steep slope, otherwise the declining is slight. There are more ways
leading towards our spot but we decided to take only one way seriously and keep
it at the place where it already has its importance. It’s the northern access
path where we would like for the tourists to start their Baba tour. Starting
the Baba tour right there logically leads to a conclusion that our spot will be
the first place tourists would run across.
From this very first
conclusion we moved on in the process of making up our urbanism. Looking at the plans of Baba we see a very
strict and straight arrangement of Baba
houses, each having approximately the same size of property, a similar number
of square meters, a logical access path, all of them smiling at the south-east
view. Simply, everything makes a perfect sense and we can see there was a lot
of work invested to which led to this result of Baba concept. Seeing all of
this we all felt like disturbing this kind of order by placing our pavilions
more or less randomly on our spot creating a more natural background instead.
We only made sure every pavilion had its right place for its purpose and when
needed - a view at Prague. And of course we took some kind of intuitive interaction
between the pavilions themselves into consideration as well. Our pavilions already
fulfill the requests of a visitor‘s centre (gallery, café, projection,…) so a
visitor’s centre has no big meaning for us. Therefore we decided to have it
under ground at the top of out spot. The main stop would be toilets anyway.
Placing our pavilions led to designing little paths tourists would be
following in order to find the easiest way to visit all of them. Yet we didn’t
want to avoid the Baba concept completely.
Therefore we decided to create a special net of greenery which would remind
a chessboard planting regularly repeating amount of trees and bushes. In our
case, we can say, greenery then has the form of architecture and architecture
has the form of greenery. Where there is enough space between the green spots
there can be benches and whatever people ask for.
All in all we wanted
to create something like a park, a pleasant and attractive nest not only for the
tourists but also for Baba residents where they can meet, buy some refreshment,
look what’s offered to take part in or just simply rest and enjoy the magic of
genius loci.
We think this is
exactly something Baba needs and until now missed.
(warning - this is not a final plan yet - just a possibility -
the final one will come soon though)
